Local History

For several years now, the Beaufort District Collection and our partners have been offering more joint programs than usual about the American Revolution because a very big and special day draws nigh: the Quarter Millennial Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, a milestone document in our nation’s history.
Revealing the Revolution One Marker at a Time: Marker Scavenger Hunt 2026, Beaufort County Historical Society, Beaufort County Library, Beaufort County 250
In accordance with our mission to bring local history to the people in this community, BDC staff helped plan the Library’s America 250 initiative and have partnered with the Beaufort County Historical Society and Beaufort County 250 Committee to bring you the “Revealing the Revolution Historical Marker Scavenger Hunt Library Quest” for armchair tourists and the deluxe “Revealing the Revolution Historical Marker Scavenger Hunt” road-trip version for all true-blue, red and white striped, local history nerds. Learn about some of the key people and events in Beaufort District’s Revolutionary War era and win prizes. Activity booklets are available at all Branch Libraries and bookmobiles beginning April 1. The challenge ends July 2.
