Our Cultures, Our Stories celebration at the Bluffton Branch Library
September 15th kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich contributions of Hispanic Americans to our country’s history, culture, and achievements. Don’t miss out on the exciting events happening at our libraries:
  • September 15 from 2:00–3:00pm, the Beaufort District Collection/Local History will present The Gonzalez-Elliott Family of Beaufort District, with Raul Galvan, at the Beaufort Branch Library.

  • September 15 through October 15, the Bluffton Branch Library will host Canvas of Cultura! Local Hispanic Artists Exhibit during normal library hours.

  • Saturday, October 3, from 11:00am–1:00pm, join us for the Bluffton Branch Library’s fifth annual Our Cultures, Our Stories: A Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Volunteer country representatives will host colorful informational tables representing their ancestry and sharing the histories, geography, traditions, and cultures of Hispanic nations and regions. Visitors can also enjoy live Latin music, cultural dance, a bilingual storytime, face painting, and more.

Local History

With the kids going back to school, some Beaufortonians might be nostalgic for their own school days! Never fear - the Beaufort District Collection (BDC) has plenty of school-related materials that can help researchers learn and reminisce about their BCSD alma mater. Sydney wrote a BDC Connections post in August that gives readers a peek at what we've got.

We would say that the BDC's most requested materials are school yearbooks. From student portraits, sports highlights, and business ads, yearbooks contain a treasure trove of information! If you are curious about what yearbooks the BDC has available, take a look at our inventory of yearbooks and school annuals
